An existing house rehabilitated to expand and contract with the life of a family, without demolition or extension.

Within the Envelope

A recently built house, bought by a medium-sized family. The project works within its existing envelope: a guest suite and staff rooms on the ground floor, the first-floor living room turned into a bedroom suite, and the second-floor service roof covered to become another. Each suite has a study desk built into its wall cladding.

A Room That Changes

Once the living room becomes a bedroom, gathering moves upward: a family lounge beneath a new skylight, opening onto a 109 m² upper garden. The office bathroom is assigned to a future suite, so the office can become a bedroom when the family needs one, and return to being an office when a child moves out.

A Calm Face, A Warm Palette

A new perforated screen wraps the upper floor and rebalances the facade, while the boundary wall becomes a single plane that hides columns and doors, so the facade reads as one calm volume. Inside: oak, brown zellige, red travertine, Indus gold marble, and terracotta running out onto the upper garden.

The project does not change the house; it teaches the house how to change.
